Australia sees RV refrigeration shift led by Secop's BD-Nano compressor

Thu, 9th May 2024

The RV refrigeration industry in Australia is currently undergoing a significant change, with advanced compressor refrigerators steadily replacing traditional 3-way absorption units. Leading this transformation is the BD-Nano compressor by Secop, which has been touted as a new standard in reliability, cooling performance, and energy efficiency for mobile cooling applications.

Compressor refrigerators armed with the BD-Nano reportedly offer superior performance and low power consumption, even under high ambient temperatures. Unlike absorption units that can take up to eight hours to cool, compressor-based systems provide faster cooling in under two hours and maintain stable, low temperatures due to their higher cooling capacity. Users will also appreciate the compressor technology's compatibility with off-grid operations when paired with supplementary batteries or solar panels, making it an ideal companion for remote outings.

The BD-Nano, despite its compact size—measuring 93mm in height and weighing a mere 1.5kg—delivers premium cooling performance with high efficiency (up to 1.56 W/W under ASHRAE LBP conditions) and low noise and vibration. It challenges the current automotive industry benchmark by operating at -6 dB/A quieter than its predecessor, the BD Micro. With its space-saving design, RV manufacturers can craft modern refrigerators with augmented capacity, and a single BD-Nano can cater to refrigerators up to 150 liters.

A state-of-the-art Electronic Controller Unit (ECU) controls the BD-Nano, offering a wide repertoire of electronic interface functions. It's compatible with industry-standard LIN hardware via a straightforward Modbus interface and can be further personalized through the free Tool4Cool software provided by Secop. As an extra touch, the controller is designed to have low interference (EMI CISPR25 Level 5) for controlled emissions and immunity.

To guarantee consistent performance, the BD-Nano is crafted at Secop's IATF16949-certified plant in Tianjin, China, utilising highly automated assembly processes and strict end-of-line testing methods. This factory gained its IATF16949 certification in December 2023, illustrating its commitment to the high standards of the automobile industry.

Beyond RVs, the BD-Nano's versatility through its ISO16750 compliance for reduced knocking noise, vibration, and improved transport stability makes it a suitable candidate for a myriad mobile applications which includes cars, electric vehicles, trucks, buses, and boats.

With the demand for improved mobile cooling solutions on the rise, Secop's BD-Nano compressor stands at the ready. Its powerful performance, energy efficiency, and intelligent electronic controls earmark it as a frontrunner in ushering in a new era of high-tech refrigeration for the RV market and beyond.
