Dell launches new laptop range focusing on power & design
Dell Technologies has unveiled its latest laptop portfolio with the introduction of the Dell 16 Premium and Dell 14 Premium, formerly part of its XPS lineup.
The new range is powered by Intel Core Series 2 (H) processors, with optional GeForce RTX graphics, targeting students, content creators, and entrepreneurs seeking reliable performance for a wide range of tasks.
Display and design
The Dell Premium laptops have been developed with a focus on display quality and device aesthetics.
The screens have been designed with the brand's InfinityEdge bezels, resulting in 14.5-inch and 16.3-inch displays for the 14 Premium and 16 Premium models, respectively. This approach maximises available screen area while maintaining a compact physical footprint.
OLED display options are available for both models, offering up to 4K resolution with 120Hz variable refresh rates. According to Dell, these screens offer deep blacks and vibrant colours suitable for viewing and content creation, with built-in EyeSafe technology intended to reduce blue light exposure during extended use.
Performance improvements
Dell has emphasised performance advancements in the Premium line. By utilising the Intel Core Ultra 200H series CPUs, these laptops are claimed to provide up to 33% faster performance for everyday tasks and up to 21% faster processing in lightweight 3D and creative applications, according to internal testing benchmarks. Support for memory speeds up to 8400MHz is designed to accommodate multitasking, video editing, and collaborative workflows.
Battery performance has also been highlighted.
When configured with the optional power-saving 2K LCD display, Dell reports the 14 Premium can deliver up to 20 hours of streaming battery life, while the 16 Premium can reach up to 27 hours. Testing was conducted using Netflix streaming benchmarks with specific hardware configurations and display settings.
Advanced multithreading capabilities are incorporated to manage complex workflows such as high-resolution video editing and batch image processing, reportedly enabling up to a 23% improvement in task speed. Cooling has been refined with Liquid Crystal Polymer fan blades and redesigned housing for improved airflow and reduced operational noise.
Model differentiation
The Dell 16 Premium is positioned for intensive workloads, featuring Intel Core Ultra 9 processors and delivering up to 45W of sustained CPU power, aiming to run demanding applications without compromise. Optional NVIDIA Blackwell-powered GeForce RTX 50 Series Laptop GPUs are available for high-level graphics performance and AI-driven features. Connectivity has been expanded with an option for Intel Thunderbolt 5, supporting data speeds up to 80/120 Gbps and the ability to run up to four 8K displays.
Meanwhile, the Dell 14 Premium focuses on portability and balanced performance.
It includes integrated graphics with up to 29% higher speeds for routine operations, based on internal benchmarks, and offers an optional NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 GPU. Wi-Fi 7 compatibility is included to provide faster wireless throughput, with Dell stating up to 4.8 times faster data transfer rates.
Sustainability features
Both Premium laptops are constructed with CNC aluminium and Gorilla Glass 3, and Dell states that the new line meets environmental criteria that contribute to the circular economy. The range holds Energy Star and EPEAT gold registration, now with the Climate+ designation, and incorporates recycled aluminium and post-consumer plastics. Packaging is made from 100% recycled or renewable content, combining circular design with high build quality and specification standards.
Operating system and future support
The laptops ship with Windows 11, providing users with Microsoft's latest desktop platform. This includes Copilot on Windows, an AI-powered assistant for productivity and creative workflows. Dell highlights that with support for Windows 10 ending in October 2025, these laptops offer built-in security, faster performance, and on-device AI features to assist users in preparing for the future.
"Today, Dell unveils its new lineup of flagship laptops, now under the Dell Premium name. Powered by the latest Intel Core Ultra 200 H series processors, these devices deliver meaningful performance advancements designed for students, creators and entrepreneurs who rely their PCs to fuel their ambitions and keep pace with what's next."
The new Dell Premium portfolio is positioned to offer users multiple form factors and performance levels, with both environmental and productivity considerations in mind.
