Hands-on Review: Samsung’s new 115-Inch Neo QLED is the black beauty of TVs

I spent an entire day at Samsung's Sydney headquarters with the colossal 115-inch Neo QLED QN90F, and it genuinely felt like stepping into a private cinema.

From movies to gaming, this display turned every moment into an event. It's Samsung's largest-ever 4K Neo QLED TV, yet somehow manages to look elegant, not overbearing.

The first thing that struck me was the design. Despite its sheer size, the QN90F is surprisingly thin - sleeker than some smaller TVs I've tested.

The frame is minimalist and beautifully finished, with ultra-narrow bezels that make the picture seem endless. Around the back, Samsung has added discreet handles, a thoughtful touch that makes positioning or transport far easier than you'd expect for a screen of this magnitude. It's clear that practicality wasn't forgotten amid all the engineering muscle.

Once switched on, the 115-inch expanse transforms the room.

I started my session by streaming Ed Gein: The Real Monster on Netflix.

Blacks were deep and consistent, details in candlelit rooms stayed intact, and subtle colour tones in skin and fabrics were remarkably natural. It felt like watching the show through a glass window, not a screen. The eerie quiet moments in that series gained a new kind of intensity when paired with Samsung's top-channel Dolby Atmos speakers.

The audio setup deserves real praise. The Object Tracking Sound+ system projected sound so precisely that I could hear every creak of a floorboard or whisper in perfect sync with the on-screen action.

When I switched to an action film later, the effect was jaw-dropping - the sound followed motion across the screen, placing me right in the middle of the scene. I never once wished for a soundbar.

Samsung's AI-powered NQ8 Gen3 processor does much of the heavy lifting, using deep learning to upscale lower-quality content into crystal-clear 4K.

Older HD clips looked unexpectedly vibrant, free of noise or artefacts, thanks to the Supersize Picture Enhancer. Quantum Matrix Technology Plus and Mini LED backlighting worked together to create depth and brightness control that rivaled OLED, even on such an enormous canvas.

Later in the day, I played around with the gaming.

The visuals silky smooth, hyper-detailed, and incredibly responsive. The 144Hz Motion Xcelerator made fast turns and reflections feel lifelike, and there wasn't a hint of lag. For sports and racing fans, this level of fluidity is a revelation.

For all its cinematic grandeur, the QN90F is also practical. Samsung's One Connect box keeps all cables tidy and out of sight, while SmartThings integration and the latest Tizen interface make navigation effortless. Voice control responded instantly, apps launched without hesitation, and the TV handled multi-device syncing flawlessly.

Whether I was immersed in the eerie realism of Ed Gein: The Real Monster, racing at high speed, or streaming 4K nature footage, the QN90F made every frame feel alive.

At $26,999 AUD, it's undoubtedly a luxury item, but it feels worthy of the title. The combination of scale, sharpness, design finesse, and ease of installation makes the Samsung 115-inch Neo QLED QN90F the most cinematic home television experience I've ever had - and one that left me absolutely mesmerised.
