Jaecoo has set an Australian launch plan and driveaway price for the J5 EV, with the fully electric SUV due to reach dealerships in January 2026 under a single-variant strategy.

The brand said it will offer a special price for the first 1,000 customers. Jaecoo priced the J5 EV at AUD $36,990 driveaway and said it will include free premium paint for those buyers.

Jaecoo positioned the J5 EV as a compact SUV with a feature list aimed at mainstream buyers. The company also highlighted materials and accessories designed for pet owners.

"We are beyond excited with the arrival of the J5 range in Australia", said Roy Munoz, Chief Commercial Officer, OMODA JAECOO AUS & NZ.

"Kicking off with the BEV variant, it will be a compelling choice in an increasingly competitive EV market. No other vehicle currently offers a pet friendly interior and a large selection of accessories, which range from a dog carrier to a waterproof cargo mat, and even a karaoke machine.", said Munoz.

Single Variant

Jaecoo said Australia will receive the J5 EV in one specification. The company listed standard equipment including 18-inch "aero" alloy wheels with Continental tyres, a power tailgate, a glass roof with powered sunshade, and dual-zone air conditioning.

Cabin technology includes an 8.88-inch LCD driver instrument cluster and a 13.2-inch LCD infotainment touchscreen. Jaecoo said the car will include an 8-speaker sound system, plus wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also listed a 50W wireless charger and a 360-degree around view monitor.

The company also said the vehicle will include remote start with air conditioning memory, LED headlights and daytime running lights, and acoustic glass for the front doors. Jaecoo listed heated and ventilated front seats.

Pet Materials

Jaecoo said the J5 EV will use pet-friendly synthetic leather as standard. The company described the material as silicone-based, antibacterial and wear-resistant. It also said the surface is easier to clean than conventional trims.

Munoz pointed to a range of accessories in the announcement. Jaecoo listed items including a dog carrier and a waterproof cargo mat. The company also referred to a karaoke machine among the accessories.

Powertrain Detail

Jaecoo said the J5 EV uses a single electric motor with power sent to the front wheels. It quoted outputs of 155kW and 288Nm.

The company stated a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 7.7 seconds. It also quoted electric energy consumption of 143Wh/km.

Jaecoo claimed a driving range of up to 402km under the WLTP test cycle. It said the car can charge from 30% to 80% in 28 minutes using a DC fast charger.

Jaecoo also stated a maximum towing mass of 750kg for a non-braked trailer. It listed V2L vehicle-to-load functionality, with an asterisk note that capability is subject to local regulations and accessory availability.

Design Focus

The brand described an exterior design with an EV-specific front grille with active aero, slimline headlights, a sloping roofline and 18-inch alloy wheels. Jaecoo also highlighted a rear lightbar that stretches across the boot with Jaecoo lettering.

Inside, Jaecoo said it used a minimalist layout. The company stated that the 13.2-inch touchscreen controls functions including air conditioning, digital radio and vehicle settings, plus smartphone connectivity.

Safety List

Jaecoo said the J5 includes seven airbags. It also listed driver assistance systems including Autonomous Emergency Braking, Emergency Lane Keeping, Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision Warning.

The company said the J5 EV will come with an eight-year unlimited kilometre warranty. Jaecoo also referred to eight years of capped price servicing and an eight-year unlimited kilometre battery warranty.

Jaecoo pointed to growth metrics for the wider Omoda Jaecoo brand internationally. It said the brand sold 43,481 units globally in November and surpassed 330,000 sales in 2025. It stated that figure represented 47% year-on-year growth.

The company also cited regional demand signals for the J5 EV. It said the model sold out in Thailand and led BEV sales there for November. Jaecoo also said the car received 6,000 preorders in Indonesia in two weeks.

Jaecoo said the J5 won "Best SUV" from Chilean media outlet Ruta Motor and that the EV variant received "Cars of the Year 2025" at the Thailand Motor Expo. The company said the J5 EV will arrive in Australian dealerships in January 2026.
