With Xmas right around the corner, we are all gearing up for a summer of sun, food and Xmas festivities.

But summer wouldn't be complete without a good soundtrack and a solid speaker to play it on.

As such here are our three picks for speakers we'd want to find in our Xmas stockings:

The Soundlink Revolve and the Soundlink Revolve+

There are two models in the series, the Soundlink Revolve and the Soundlink Revolve+, and Bose assures they provide truly omnidirectional performance, with sound in every direction from a seamless aluminium design.

Director of products for Bose, Glen Gomes-Casseres says when Soundlink first hit the market, it took the industry by storm.

It's meant to go where you go.

Both speakers feature an IPX4-rating which means they can withstand spills, rain and pool splashes, with rugged durability to serve dings, drops and bumps.

A quarterly thread on the bottom of the speakers means you can mount them on a tripod for listening outdoors, but hey, who really needs that when you've got all manner of things outside to hold it.

UE Wonderboom

If you're looking for an affordable, durable, portable speaker with the crisp sound quality for day-to-day use, the Wonderboom makes a solid case.

Users are promised 10 hours of battery life at 75% volume.

Like other UE Boom speakers, it's got the ability to double up with another speaker, but this only works with other Wonderbooms.

The Wonderboom's IPX7 rating and ability to float are a plus

 It's durable enough to survive the elements, no matter where it's used.

Amazon Echo Plus

This list would not be complete without the apex of smart speakers, the Amazon Echo Plus.

Three years ago, Amazon introduced Echo and Alexa, offering a new way to interact with technology using just your voice.

Echo combines an all-new speaker architecture, a dedicated tweeter, a 2.5” down-firing woofer, and Dolby processing to deliver crisp vocals and dynamic bass throughout the room, all in a smaller design.

The new Echo uses Amazon's second-generation far-field technology, which features better wake word processing, improved beamforming technology, and enhanced noise cancellation.
