ASUS ROG Ally X debuts in Australia & New Zealand for pre-order
ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) has unveiled the ROG Ally X, a new model in its handheld gaming console lineup. This announcement marks the availability of the device for pre-order in Australia and New Zealand through ASUS E-shop, JB Hi-Fi, and PB Tech.
The ROG Ally X retains the well-regarded AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor of its predecessor but notably enhances several key hardware components. It features an upgraded 1 TB M.2 2280 SSD for expanded storage capacity, 24 GB of LPDDR5X-7500 RAM for increased memory speed, and an 80 Wh battery, which doubles the battery life of the original model.
Improved ergonomics and connectivity are also highlights of the ROG Ally X. The redesigned chassis, now in a sleek black colour, incorporates deeper handles and a more rounded shape to enhance user comfort. Additionally, the device offers two USB-C ports, one of which is Thunderbolt-compatible, providing better flexibility and interoperability with third-party accessories.
Bradley Howe, Head of Consumer, Systems Business Group at ASUS Australia, expressed enthusiasm about the launch. "We're excited to launch the new ROG Ally X in Australia and New Zealand after receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback from users on the ROG Ally last year. We have continued to listen to our customers' feedback, resulting in the new ROG Ally X, which offers great improvements to battery, thermal cooling, and storage. We are delighted that this best-in-class handheld console will now be available for individuals looking for a powerful yet portable on-the-go gaming experience," he said.
The upgraded hardware of the ROG Ally X addresses multiple user-driven requests. The introduction of a 1 TB SSD not only increases storage but also allows easier future upgrades due to the implementation of a redesigned motherboard with an M.2 2280 form factor slot. Memory improvements include 24 GB of LPDDR5X-7500 RAM, allowing the system to allocate more memory to both the system and the GPU for superior performance in modern high-resolution games. The enhanced 80 Wh battery promises longer gaming sessions without substantial weight increase, maintaining the device's portability and comfort.
Controls have been revamped with an ergonomic focus. The ROG Ally X's slightly altered button and joystick layout promises better accessibility and comfort. Joysticks now boast a 5-million-cycle lifespan, and the D-Pad has been refined for more precise directional inputs. These features aim to provide a familiar feel for seasoned gamers while enhancing durability and accuracy.
Cooling technology within the ROG Ally X has also seen significant improvements. New fans, which are 23% smaller and feature 50% thinner blades, enhance airflow and direct air towards a third exhaust vent. This design results in a 24% increase in air volume throughput, keeping both internal components and the touch screen cooler for a more comfortable gaming experience.
The pricing for the ROG Ally X starts at AUD $1,599 in Australia and NZD $1,799 in New Zealand. It will be available on shelves from 22 July, allowing gaming enthusiasts to experience these advancements firsthand.
