Chery launches TIGGO Super Hybrid SUVs in Australia from AUD $29,990

Tue, 29th Jul 2025

Chery Motor Australia has launched its new Super Hybrid SUV range, with the vehicles now available for test drive and purchase at dealerships across Australia.

The newly introduced line-up includes the TIGGO 7 and TIGGO 8 Super Hybrids, both of which are capable of delivering more than 1,000km of combined petrol and electric range, and the smaller TIGGO 4 Hybrid, providing a hybrid option to Chery's compact SUV segment.

Hybrid details

The Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) system provides a combination of efficiency and performance by offering a combined driving range of over 1,000km and an electric-only range of up to 93km. The plug-in hybrid models are equipped with self-charging capabilities using regenerative braking and the petrol engine. The company has reported a superior fuel economy for the TIGGO 7, achieving a combined figure of 1.4L/100km.

Fast charging is available, with the vehicles able to recharge from 30% to 80% in approximately 19 to 20 minutes through direct current (DC) fast charging. This feature is aimed at reducing downtime for drivers needing a rapid battery top-up during longer journeys.

Model pricing and features

The TIGGO 7 Super Hybrid is offered from AUD $39,990 driveaway, while the larger, seven-seat TIGGO 8 Super Hybrid begins at AUD $45,990 driveaway. For those seeking a more compact option, the TIGGO 4 Hybrid is available from AUD $29,990 driveaway. This compact model provides a combined fuel consumption from 5.4L/100km and features a self-charging hybrid system, meaning it does not require plugging in to top up its battery.

Regarding usability and technology, both the TIGGO 7 and TIGGO 8 include twin digital screens, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Chery's "Hello Chery" voice control system, and comfort-focused elements such as a panoramic sunroof and, in the Ultimate grades, heated and ventilated seats.

The TIGGO 4 Hybrid provides similar technology, with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, "Hello Chery" voice control, and a reverse camera as standard. The Ultimate variant adds a powered sunroof with sunshade, along with colour-selectable ambient lighting.

The TIGGO 4 Hybrid has also seen market recognition in 2025, including awards such as CarExpert's Affordable Small SUV of the Year, Drive's Best Urban Car Under AUD $30,000, and Wheels' Best Value Small SUV.

Australian context

"Australian drivers cover long distances, whether it's the weekday commute, a weekend away or the school run, and they need vehicles that can keep up," said Lucas Harris, Chief Operating Officer, Chery Australia. "Our Super Hybrid range is built for that reality. It offers flexibility, efficiency and comfort with fewer stops, smart technology, and pricing that makes sense."

The Super Hybrid SUVs are designed to run in pure electric mode for over 90km or seamlessly switch to hybrid mode for longer journeys, potentially allowing trips such as Sydney to Noosa or Melbourne to the Flinders Ranges on a single tank and charge.

Direct current fast charging capability enables a recharge from 30% to 80% in under 20 minutes, which the company notes is comparable to the time of a brief stop during a road trip.

"The TIGGO 4 Hybrid delivers the efficiency and features Australians expect, at a price that makes sense. It is a practical choice for drivers who want to reduce running costs without giving up comfort, safety or technology," said Harris.

Safety features and support

All hybrid models in the TIGGO range are equipped with safety features including multiple airbags, autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, driver monitoring systems and Chery's advanced driver assistance system.

Each vehicle is supported by a 7-year unlimited kilometre warranty, 7 years of capped price servicing, and up to 7 years of roadside assistance.

Market reception

Chery celebrated the arrival of its hybrid SUV range with a brand activation and screening partnership with Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Val Morgan at HOYTS Entertainment Quarter in Sydney, attended by over 2,000 guests. Parallel events took place in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, and Auckland.

"We were thrilled with the turnout and energy at our Chery Super Hybrid launch. It was a great opportunity to connect with families, fans and future drivers, and the response to our new hybrid line-up has been overwhelmingly positive," said Harris.
