Fujifilm unveils GFX ETERNA camera for 2025 release
FUJIFILM has announced the development of its first filmmaking camera, the 'FUJIFILM GFX ETERNA', with a planned release in 2025.
The GFX ETERNA will feature a large format sensor known as the 'GFX 102MP CMOS II HS', which is approximately 1.7 times larger than a 35mm sensor.
It will also incorporate the high-speed image processing engine 'X-Processor 5'. These technologies are also found in the mirrorless digital camera 'FUJIFILM GFX100 II', which delivers high image quality with its 102 million pixels. The aim is to enable filmmakers to capture rich, true-to-life visuals and provide enhanced flexibility in post-production.
Fujifilm is set to showcase the GFX ETERNA as a reference exhibit at the media event InterBEE 2024, scheduled for mid-November.
The Fujifilm Group has played a significant role in Japan's film industry since its inception in 1934 by introducing domestically-produced positive films for movies. Over the years, the company expanded its product line, including the motion picture colour negative film 'ETERNA series' and cinema zoom lenses like the 'Premista series' and 'ZK Cabrio series'. Fujifilm introduced the 'GFX series' of mirrorless digital cameras in 2017, featuring a large format sensor to achieve high image quality.
The GFX ETERNA aims to revolutionise film production by combining the capabilities of Fujinon lenses with advanced GFX series technology, seeking to shape a new era of filmmaking and contribute to creating timeless cinematic works.
In addition to the camera, Fujifilm is developing a power zoom GF lens optimised for the G mount camera - with a proposed focal length of 32-90mm, and a mount adapter for converting G to PL mount lenses, which are commonly used in film production.
The rising demand for various types of video content, including feature films and web content, has increased the industry's need for high-quality videos that are cost-effective and efficiently produced.
In response, Fujifilm plans to conduct rigorous field tests and expand its product lineup ahead of the GFX ETERNA launch, reinforcing its commitment to enhancing video production quality and efficiency across different fields.
