Kingston unveils NV3 SSD with speeds up to 6,000MB per second

Thu, 5th Sep 2024

Kingston Technology has announced the availability of its NV3 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, targeting users who seek high capacity and enhanced performance in a compact form factor. The new SSD model aims to offer a cost-effective solution with significant performance boosts, particularly catering to creators and gamers.

The Kingston NV3 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD features a Gen 4x4 NVMe controller and delivers read/write speeds of up to 6,000/5,000MB/s. Kingston says this makes it a suitable option for various workloads, such as multimedia editing and gaming. Its single-sided M.2. 2280 design (22x80mm) allows storage expansion of up to 4TB while conserving space for other computer components.

Tony Hollingsbee, SSD business manager for Kingston EMEA, commented on the launch: "We are excited to elevate the user experience with the next-gen successor, NV3. Whether upgrading to meet the evolving demands of working from home or building a new gaming PC, the NV3 is designed to deliver speed and dependability at an attractive price point."

Kingston's NV3 SSDs are available in capacities from 500GB to 4TB. The company highlights that the higher capacities will enable users to store a diverse array of files, including applications, documents, photos, videos, and games. Additionally, customers will receive a one-year free subscription to Acronis True Image for Kingston software. This software and the Kingston SSD Manager application allow users to monitor drive health and disk usage, update firmware, and securely erase data.

Regarding technical specifications, the NV3 SSD supports a PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe interface and includes 3D NAND technology. The drive's endurance ranges from 160TB for the 500GB model to 1280TB for the 4TB model, underlining its robustness for various user needs. The operational temperature range is specified between 0°C and 70°C, with storage temperatures between -40°C and 85°C.

The SSD weighs 7g across all capacities and has a mean time between failures (MTBF) of 2,000,000 hours. When not in operation, the NV3 is rated for 20G over the frequency range 20-1000Hz for vibration resistance. The product also comes with a limited 3-year warranty and free technical support.

Kingston has clarified that the NV3 SSD is designed for desktop and notebook computer workloads and is not intended for server environments. The firm notes that performance metrics are based on "out-of-box performance" using a PCIe 4.0 motherboard, emphasising that speeds might vary based on host hardware, software, and usage.

The launch of the Kingston NV3 PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD offers users a new option for balancing performance, capacity, and affordability in storage solutions. With its range of capacities, enhanced read/write speeds, and support for various applications, from multimedia editing to gaming, the NV3 SSD is positioned to cater to diverse consumer needs while offering essential management tools and reliability features.
