Blackmagic Design tech powers summer blockbusters' post-production
Blackmagic Design has announced that its equipment and software were utilised in the production and post-production of several major films released during the summer blockbuster season.
Notable films such as "Alien: Romulus," "It Ends with Us," "Twisters," and "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" are among those which employed Blackmagic Design's technologies.
DaVinci Resolve Studio, the company's editing, colour grading, visual effects (VFX), and audio post-production software, was prominently featured in these projects. It was used for colour grading in several films, including "Abigail" by Mitch Paulson at Company 3 and "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" by Stefan Sonnenfeld of Company 3, with additional colourists Adam Nazarenko, Siggy Ferstl, and Bryan Smaller.
DIT Laura Camilla Cortez used DaVinci Resolve in "Blink Twice," while the editorial department of "Challengers" utilised the software for transcoding and exporting media. Mark Todd Osborne of MTO Color graded both "Darkness of Man" and "Dead Sea."
"The Fall Guy," graded by Dave Hussey of Company 3, similarly relied on DaVinci Resolve, along with various Blackmagic Design tools including converters and routers. Stephen Nakamura of Company 3 handled the grading of "The First Omen" and "Fly Me to the Moon," using DaVinci Resolve for CDLs and creating dailies and proxies.
Visual post-production for "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" was completed with the involvement of additional colourists Adan Nazarenko, alongside Stefan Sonnenfeld. Meanwhile, Jill Bogdanowicz of Company 3 graded "Harold and the Purple Crayon," where DIT Clark Birchmeier employed DaVinci Resolve.
"Humane" relied on DaVinci Resolve for transcoding and utilised the Intensity Shuttle capture and playback devices, with colour grading by Walt Biljan of Redlab. Similarly, "IF," worked on by Stefan Sonnenfeld and an extended team, incorporated a Micro Videohub router and DeckLink Mini Monitor to enhance production capabilities.
Scott Hannigan of Rolling Pictures graded "In Flames," while Mitch Paulson of Company 3 contributed to "Incoming" and "Longlegs." Ethan Phillips, DIT on "MaXXXine," also utilised DaVinci Resolve, supported by various Blackmagic Design converters.
Grading for "National Anthem" and "A Quiet Place: Day One" was accomplished by Alex Bickel of Color Collective and Tom Poole of Company 3, respectively. A variety of Blackmagic Design products such as Blackmagic MultiView 4 monitors and UltraStudio HD Mini capture devices were used during these projects.
Stefan Sonnenfeld again came to the fore with "Rebel Moon – Part 2: The Scargiver," alongside support from Adam Nazarenko. Meanwhile, DP Trevor K. Ball shot "Someone Like You" using the URSA Mini Pro 4.6K digital film camera, with grading done by Travis Flynn.
Among other productions, "Transformers One" was graded by Mitch Paulson, while DIT Patrick Lochler utilised DaVinci Resolve and Blackmagic Design devices for "Treasure." "Twisters" was managed by Stefan Sonnenfeld, joined by Parker Jarvis and Adam Nazarenko.
These developments underscore the significant role that Blackmagic Design's technology plays in modern film production and post-production environments, enabling high-quality film-making processes through its diverse range of products and software solutions.
