CMF launches slimmest smartphone & three new earbuds

Today

CMF, a sub-brand of the London-based technology company Nothing, has announced the launch of the CMF Phone 2 Pro, along with three new pairs of earbuds: Buds 2, Buds 2 Plus, and Buds 2a.

The CMF Phone 2 Pro introduces a range of hardware updates and new features compared to its predecessor. According to the company, the device is the slimmest and lightest smartphone Nothing has designed to date, measuring 7.8 mm in thickness and weighing 185g, which is 5% thinner than the previous model. The handset features an aluminium camera ring and stainless steel screws, offering what the brand calls an "authentic Nothing feel." It also boasts an improved water resistance rating of IP54, an increase from its predecessor's IP52.

The device will be available in four colours: White, Black, Orange and Light Green. The Black and Light Green options feature a back designed to mimic frosted glass and a metallic frame, while the White variant has a sandstone finish, intended to provide a more tactile feel. The Orange model features a metallic sheen and is described as the boldest colour choice among the options.

The CMF Phone 2 Pro is equipped with a four-camera system, including a 50 MP main sensor described as having the largest sensor size in its class, capable of capturing 64% more light compared to its predecessor. The device also features a telephoto lens with six stacked lenses, offering digital zoom capabilities of up to 20x, as noted by CMF, which claims it is the only smartphone in this market segment to have a telephoto sensor. An 8 MP ultra-wide camera is also present, along with a 16 MP front camera designed for selfies.

The smartphone is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Pro 5G processor featuring an 8-core CPU with a clock speed of up to 2.5 GHz. The company states that this processor delivers 10% faster processing and a 5% increase in graphics performance compared to its predecessor.

The 5000 mAh battery in the CMF Phone 2 Pro provides up to two days of use on a single charge, which is nearly an hour longer than in the previous version. The device also debuts the largest and brightest display in the CMF range: a 6.77-inch FHD+ flexible AMOLED screen capable of displaying 1.07 billion hues, a significant increase over the previous model.

The screen features a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, which is 50% brighter than the CMF Phone 1. It also incorporates a 1,000 Hz touch sampling rate, described as a 316% improvement, and a 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate. Additional features include a modular accessory system, support for contactless payment via NFC, and three new add-ons: Universal Cover, Interchangeable Lenses (Fisheye and Macro), and a Wallet/Stand.

In addition to the new smartphone, CMF announced updates to its audio lineup with three new models: Buds 2, Buds 2 Plus, and Buds 2a. The company says each model is intended to serve different use cases and preferences.

The Buds 2 are described as "a versatile companion for the everyday, balancing sound, comfort and smart features." They support 48dB hybrid active noise cancellation, Dirac OpteoTM tuning, and a spatial audio effect. The Buds 2 Plus, as they build on this foundation, offer Hi-Res LDAC, hearing compensation, and a fully customisable equaliser. The Buds 2a serve as the entry-level option, with a lightweight design, 42dB noise cancellation, and a 12.4mm bio-fibre driver designed to enhance bass clarity.

Pricing in Australia for the CMF Phone 2 Pro starts at AUD $449 for the 8+128GB model and AUD $509 for the 8+256GB variant. The Buds 2 are priced at AUD $89, Buds 2 Plus at AUD $109, and Buds 2a at AUD $79.

Pre-orders for the CMF Phone 2 Pro and all new Buds models will be available through JB Hi-Fi, the exclusive retail partner in Australia, starting from 28 April, with sales opening on 6 May.
