LG Smart TVs introduce Xbox app for cloud gaming in 26 countries

Today

LG Electronics has launched the Xbox app on compatible LG Smart TVs, enabling users to stream Xbox games directly to their televisions across 26 countries.

According to LG, the Xbox app can now be accessed on LG Smart TVs and select smart monitors running webOS 24 and newer versions, with further availability set for StanbyME screens in the near future. This integration permits gamers to play a broad range of titles from notable publishers such as Activision, Bethesda, Blizzard, Mojang, and Xbox Game Studios using only a compatible controller.

The arrival of the Xbox app brings a substantial gaming catalogue to LG TV users. Through the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership, users can access an array of titles including Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Avowed, South of Midnight, and upcoming releases such as Towerborne. Members are also able to stream select games they already own, such as NBA 2K25 and Hogwarts Legacy, providing additional flexibility in content choice.

The Xbox app is now available in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK, and USA, according to LG. The app is conveniently accessible through the Gaming Portal and the LG Apps interface on compatible devices.

Compatibility extends across a range of hardware, including 2022 OLED TVs, 2023 OLED, QNED, NanoCell, and UHD TV models which have been updated to software version 23.20.01 or higher. Select smart monitors and additional devices are supported with the most recent webOS releases.

Describing the new service, LG stated, "Conveniently accessible from the Gaming Portal and the LG Apps, the Xbox app enables LG TV owners to jump straight into gameplay from day one with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, launching hundreds of titles from Activision, Bethesda, Blizzard, Mojang, Xbox Game Studios, and more - with just a compatible controller."

The selection of games available through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate includes both new releases and an established library, with the service offering regular updates and day-one access to several titles. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members are required to have an active subscription and a compatible controller for game streaming; a high-speed internet connection is also necessary, and internet service provider charges may apply.

LG highlighted the user benefits of the platform, saying, "With an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership, users can explore a dynamic lineup of games, from action-packed titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 to popular titles like Avowed, South of Midnight or eagerly awaited upcoming releases like Towerborne. Game Pass Ultimate members can also conveniently stream a select catalogue of games they already own, such as NBA 2K25 and Hogwarts Legacy, adding even greater flexibility to their gaming experience."

On picture and sound performance, the Xbox app on LG Smart TVs leverages the advanced imaging capabilities of OLED and QNED displays. LG noted, "LG continues to deliver the ultimate home entertainment experience with its innovative TVs including its built-in platform, webOS. Through its partnership with Xbox and the launch of the Xbox app, LG elevates gaming with the advanced picture and sound quality of OLED TVs and the vivid action of the latest QNED TVs, including smooth gameplay upscaled to 4K for lifelike visuals, while offering a convenient interface on LG Smart TVs to enjoy a vast library of games with cloud gaming."

The Gaming Portal, through which the Xbox app can be accessed, is available on LG screens running webOS23 and later in several markets, and will expand to previous webOS versions and more countries by the second quarter, according to the company.

Xbox cloud gaming through the LG Xbox app forms part of the wider webOS platform, which has powered LG TVs for over a decade and features a growing ecosystem of global streaming, gaming, and entertainment partners.
