Standards Australia unveils flexible online training for trades

Standards Australia has launched a new online training platform aimed at improving access to Australian Standards for trades and technical professionals. The platform is intended to provide practical, up-to-date educational resources to support compliance and safety in sectors such as plumbing, construction, and technology.

Accessible learning

The new platform, called Standards Australia Training, offers self-paced online courses developed with input from industry, academia, and regulators. It is designed to fit around work schedules, enabling participants to learn at their own pace and apply knowledge directly in their jobs.

At launch, the platform includes a series of targeted courses. These cover compliance topics such as plumbing standards, fire door safety, the overall role of standards in construction, and an introduction to the ISO/IEC 42001:2023 standard for AI management systems. Each course has been developed in collaboration with partners including Pointsbuild, the Building Commission NSW, and the Australian National University.

Course offerings

The AS/NZS 3500 Plumbing Course Series provides a structured approach to plumbing compliance, focusing on correct installation and regulatory requirements. The fire safety course addresses the installation and maintenance of fire doors to support building fire safety obligations.

Another course, developed together with the Building Commission NSW, examines the role of standards in constructing safe and high-quality environments. The training also introduces participants to AI management systems, reflecting the growing relevance of technology standards for industry professionals.

Professional development

Each course on the platform includes certification and digital credentials, which participants can display on online professional profiles. The focus on real-world applicability is a key differentiator, with content created in collaboration with technical specialists to ensure relevancy for daily job requirements.

The courses cater to apprentices, early-career workers, and experienced professionals. They are structured to help users build foundational knowledge, refresh their skills, or reduce compliance risks in their businesses.
