Wed, 29th May 2024

Getac has unveiled the world's first AI-ready rugged laptop, the S510, tailored to address the unique challenges faced by professionals in the utility industry. The newly launched device is poised to revolutionise utility operations by integrating powerful artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities with robust durability, enhancing overall productivity, safety, and efficiency.

The S510 is equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 5/7 processor featuring Intel AI Boost and Intel Graphics, promising exceptional performance. One of its standout features is the Microsoft Copilot key, designed to swiftly activate AI functionalities. The combination of these elements ensures that utility professionals can efficiently leverage AI-based applications, significantly simplifying complex tasks.

In terms of durability, the S510 meets MIL-STD-810H and IP53 certifications, indicating outstanding resistance to drops up to 0.9 metres, vibrations, and adverse weather conditions. A 15.6-inch display with 1,000 nits brightness and Getac’s sunlight readable technology ensures usability in various lighting scenarios. For connectivity, the laptop includes Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 by default, with optional 4G-LTE and 5G Sub-6 capabilities, ensuring seamless communication in the field.

The rugged design and AI potential of the S510 make it an ideal tool for diverse applications within the utility sector. Routine tasks can be automated, freeing up workers to focus on strategic activities. Efficient management of resources, such as energy and water distribution, is facilitated, reducing waste and enhancing operational efficiency. AI capability bolsters worker safety by monitoring hazardous conditions and issuing timely alerts to prevent accidents. During critical situations like natural disasters or system failures, the S510 provides vital data and decision support, which can enhance response times and effectiveness.

Flexibility is at the core of the S510's design. It integrates smoothly with current systems and can be adapted for various utility applications, including electricity, water, and gas sectors. Accurate data collection and compliance with regulatory standards are pivotal functionalities, ensuring reliable and high-quality service delivery. This minimises service outages and optimises resource management, leading to quicker issue resolution and improved customer satisfaction.

Despite its rugged build, the S510 is remarkably portable, weighing just 2.35kg, making it easy to carry. Its hot-swappable battery ensures continuous operation throughout long shifts. In line with Getac’s sustainability goals, a notable proportion of the chassis is made from post-consumer recycled materials, underlining the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

The S510 can be customised to meet specific customer requirements, with options including dual Thunderbolt 4 ports for rapid data transfer, up to 64GB DDR5 (standard 8GB), and up to 2TB of PCIe NVMe SSD storage (standard 256GB). Additional features like a laser barcode reader, DVD super multi drive, second storage drive, and an NVIDIA GPU are available to enhance functionality further.

This launch is seen as a significant step in the evolution of AI-based applications within rugged work environments. Grace Wang, Intel’s vice president of sales and marketing, commented, “AI PCs represent a new generation of personal computers with dedicated AI acceleration capabilities.... We are delighted to see Getac's new S510 bringing this to a rugged platform.”

James Hwang, president of Getac Technology Corporation, expressed optimism about the new product’s impact, stating, “The company is only just beginning to scratch the surface of what’s possible with AI-based applications in the utility industry. The S510 brings together future-proof performance and rugged reliability in a compact package, empowering users to implement the latest AI innovations confidently.”
