LG unveils world-first 45-inch 5K2K OLED gaming monitor

Mon, 14th Apr 2025

LG Electronics Australia has announced the launch of four new UltraGear gaming monitors, headlined by what it describes as the world's first 45-inch 5K2K OLED display. The new monitors are available for pre-order at 25% off via the LG online store from 10 to 24 April.

The flagship model, the LG UltraGear 45GX950A-B.AAU, features a 5K2K (5120x2160) OLED panel with a 21:9 aspect ratio and 800R curvature. According to the company, it offers "a 34% wider view than standard 16:9 displays and a 33% increase in pixel count over UHD (3840x2160)".

The display, which LG says is "built on LG's OLED leadership", also incorporates Micro Lens Array+ (MLA+) technology, allowing it to deliver up to 37.5% brighter SDR performance compared to previous models. The company adds that it reaches a peak brightness of 1300 nits (APL 1.5%) and maintains Delta E ≦ 2 colour accuracy.

Designed for gaming performance, the 45GX950A supports Dual-Mode operation, enabling users to switch between WUHD resolution at 165Hz and WFHD at 330Hz. LG states that this allows players to "optimise performance for different game genres by switching between high-resolution and high-refresh-rate modes". It also boasts a 0.03ms grey-to-grey response time.

The monitor includes connectivity via DisplayPort 2.1 and USB-C with 90W power delivery. Integrated 10W x 2 stereo speakers with rich bass and DTS Headphone:X support aim to enhance the audio experience, with LG positioning this as an advantage in genres like FPS where sound cues and communication are crucial.

In terms of display quality, the panel features VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400, a 1.5M:1 contrast ratio, and a DCI-P3 98.5% typical colour gamut. "Experience unparalleled depth and vibrant realism," LG claims, adding that the anti-glare technology is certified by UL to be Flicker-Free, Discomfort Glare Free and Low Blue Light.

Other features include a 125 PPI pixel density, customisable OLED protection settings via On-Screen Display, and ergonomic adjustments for tilt, height, and swivel. The screen's "virtually borderless" design and space-saving L-stand also aim to support minimalist setups.

Three other models also feature in LG's 2025 UltraGear range and are part of the pre-order promotion:

The 27G850A-B.AAU is a 27-inch 4K UHD monitor with Nano IPS Black technology, 240Hz refresh rate, and 1ms (GtG) response. It features Dual-Mode support for switching between 4K 240Hz and Full HD 480Hz modes.

The 39GX90SA-W.AAU and 34GX90SA-W.AAU are curved OLED monitors with 240Hz refresh rates and webOS functionality, enabling access to streaming apps and cloud gaming without the need for a separate PC or console.

Each model supports DisplayHDR True Black 400 and features LG's 0.03ms (GtG) response time for minimal motion blur.

LG is marketing the pre-order promotion exclusively through its online store, with shipping set to begin on 25 April. The 25% discount applies automatically at checkout.
