Lime launches new LimeBike & pricing in Sydney after milestone
Lime has introduced its next-generation LimeBike in Sydney, making the city the first in the Southern Hemisphere to receive the upgraded bikes. This launch coincides with Lime reaching a global milestone of one billion rides across five continents. The company is also rolling out enhanced services for its Sydney users, including new pricing for LimePrime subscriptions and improved helmet safety features.
Bike upgrades
The new LimeBike model features a series of design and technology changes aimed at improving rider comfort, safety, and sustainability. These updates include more accurate onboard location technology, smaller wheels alongside a low-step frame for improved stability, and a modular design that supports replaceable components to reduce waste and prolong the vehicle's operational life. Ergonomic hand grips are intended to provide greater comfort for longer rides. A portrait-oriented phone holder has been added to assist with navigation.
The company states that these enhancements are intended to make the bikes accessible for a wide demographic, including women, senior riders and those of smaller stature. Sydney joins cities such as Paris, Seattle, and Zurich in deploying the new model, as Lime aims to expand its sustainable urban transport solutions globally.
Helmet safety
Alongside the launch, Lime has introduced an updated Helmet Lock V2. This system is designed to make it easier for riders to access and securely return helmets, addressing ongoing concerns around shared mobility safety in urban environments.
Subscription pricing
The company has also unveiled an improved LimePrime subscription service for Sydney. Members can now access unlimited trips up to 20 minutes for AUD $2.75 per trip, subject to a flat monthly fee of AUD $4.99. Short rides under five minutes are charged at AUD $1.50, while trips beyond 20 minutes are billed at AUD $0.29 per minute. Benefits include unlimited free ride unlocks, extended vehicle reservations of up to thirty minutes, and flexible monthly renewals without lock-in contracts.
These new pricing measures are designed to offer Sydney users greater affordability and convenience as micro-mobility options continue to grow in urban Australia.
Company milestone
Lime's rollout in Sydney comes as the company reaches a significant operational milestone, recording one billion rides globally. The company has continued to invest in new models and services, underscoring its intention to maintain a presence in the growing shared electric vehicle market.
"Launching LimeBike in Sydney is a major step toward a more accessible and sustainable city.
