PropApp launches to empower Australian homeowners & movers

Fri, 30th May 2025

A new Australian property app, PropApp, has launched with the aim of supporting homeowners and movers through the process of buying and selling homes.

Developed by Melbourne-based entrepreneurs Zac Burd and Joel Wermut, PropApp seeks to simplify and personalise the journey of moving by connecting homeowners with real estate agents based on individual preferences such as local expertise, communication style, and performance history.

The platform was conceived following Wermut's own frustrations with the process of appraising his family home, which he found lacking in transparency and authenticity. This experience led him to partner with Burd, whose background in real estate and growth strategy contributed commercial insight to their venture.

PropApp distinguishes itself from traditional property technology platforms by refusing to use paid rankings or generic agent recommendations. Instead, it offers what its founders describe as user-first matching, prioritising the needs and preferences of movers throughout the sales process.

The app allows users to browse agent profiles, request appraisals, compare personalised offers, and invite agents to tender for their business, all while maintaining their privacy. The platform is designed to prevent unsolicited contact, with a chat function that only opens when there is genuine interest from both parties.

Zac Burd, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, said: "For too long, property tech has centred around buyers and listings. We built PropApp because no one was genuinely building for the buyer and seller - or as we like to say, the movers. It's emotional, high-stakes, and for many Australians, one of the biggest financial decisions they'll ever make. We believe people deserve more than just generic data or agent ads; they deserve confidence and clarity with a simple tool that helps them make the right call, on their terms."

The app is currently available to homeowners and buyers in Victoria, with expansion plans to other states in the future. As part of its offering, PropApp provides a free listing experience for those looking to move homes and is working on developing additional features.

The company positions itself as Australia's first community-led property app, aiming to blend data with personal insights and build trust and transparency into every stage of the moving process. Its user interface is designed to be straightforward and accessible via mobile device.

Joel Wermut, Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder, commented: "We didn't just want to build a platform, we wanted to build something transformative to create a data driven experience that empowers homeowners to be the masters of their own journey, from start to sold - a smart, beautiful software experience that respects people's time, money and privacy."

According to the team behind PropApp, the service was developed out of a recognition that many homeowners were dissatisfied with existing options for property transactions, which often exposed users to unsolicited agent contact and prioritised paid listings over truly tailored recommendations.

The platform invites users to begin by adding their property details and photography directly from their phone, offers assistance in finding finance options, and enables users to manage appraisals or agent offers privately. Up-to-date property data is provided to help people stay informed about the local market.

PropApp's current focus is on strengthening its offering in Victoria and building a user base among homeowners and buyers who are seeking more autonomy and control in the property transaction process. National expansion is expected as part of the company's growth ambitions, with additional features to be introduced over time.
