Samsung launches Odyssey 3D & OLED G8 gaming monitors in AUS
Samsung Australia has announced the availability for pre-order of the Odyssey 3D gaming monitor as well as the Odyssey OLED G8 gaming monitor, which comes in both 27-inch and 32-inch screen sizes.
Both monitors are aimed at the gaming sector, with Samsung stating they have been designed to provide strong performance and immersive experiences for modern gamers.
Hoon Chung, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, said, "At Samsung, we are committed to delivering cutting-edge display technology that enhances the gaming experience. The new Odyssey monitors represent a significant leap forward in innovation, visual quality and performance, empowering gamers to fully immerse themselves and perform at their best."
The Odyssey 3D (G90XF model) introduces a 27-inch display that offers a 3D gaming experience without the use of dedicated glasses. The screen uses advanced eye-tracking technology and Samsung's proprietary lenticular lens. According to Samsung, this setup provides what it describes as a high-definition 3D image accessible through the Reality Hub app. This technology is intended to enhance immersion in selected games and video content.
Samsung stated that it is working closely with game developers to maximise the potential of the 3D technology delivered by the Odyssey 3D. Collaborations include Nexon with The First Berserker: Khazan, now available in Australia, and Neowiz for Lies of P, which will receive its first downloadable content, Overture, in the second half of 2025.
In addition to supporting 3D gaming, the Odyssey 3D offers an AI video conversion feature designed to transform 2D video content into 3D. Samsung said, "Every scene of compatible content is analysed and converted to 3D for 3D effects with less eye strain."
The monitor features a 165Hz refresh rate and a 1ms Gray-to-Gray (GtG) response time, and it operates at 4K resolution. For gaming performance, it includes AMD FreeSync Premium and NVIDIA G-SYNC compatibility to help address issues like choppiness and lag during demanding gameplay.
Edge Lighting is another feature of the Odyssey 3D, intended to further gaming immersion by projecting colours that match on-screen lighting to the space beneath the monitor.
The Odyssey 3D is priced at AUD $2,999 and is now available for pre-order in Australia.
The Odyssey OLED G8 (G81SF model) is available in both 27-inch and 32-inch models. The 27-inch version features the highest pixel density for its size at 166 pixels per inch, a 240Hz refresh rate, and 4K resolution QD-OLED visuals. Samsung reports that the OLED G8's quantum dot technology enables enhanced colours and contrast, as well as improved viewing angles. The monitor also supports VESA DisplayHDR TrueBlack 400, offering what the company describes as near-infinite contrast, with a typical brightness of 250 nits.
To address glare, the Odyssey OLED G8 is certified Glare Free by Underwriters Laboratories. Samsung explains that the screen uses OLED Safeguard+ with a Dynamic Cooling System, which employs a Pulsating Heat Pipe to diffuse heat without changing brightness, in order to protect against burn-in.
The refresh rate of 240Hz and response time of 0.03ms (GtG) are included to make the monitor responsive in gaming scenarios. The OLED G8 supports both AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-SYNC functionality to reduce effects like stuttering and screen tearing. The design utilises a slim metal build and includes Core Lighting+ to project lighting effects around the user, and the stand is described by Samsung as ergonomic for ease of setup.
The Odyssey OLED G8 27-inch model has a retail price of AUD $1,799, while the 32-inch model is priced at AUD $1,999. Both are now available for pre-order in Australia.
