Oakley Meta HSTN glasses launch with AI, camera & open-ear audio

Wed, 9th Jul 2025

Oakley has unveiled the Oakley Meta HSTN, a new wearable device that integrates camera technology, open-ear speakers, and AI capabilities in a single eyewear product.

The Oakley Meta HSTN glasses are designed for both athletes and fans, aiming to blend the company's bold aesthetics with technological features. The glasses feature a built-in camera for hands-free video capture, as well as open-ear speakers that enable users to listen to playlists, podcasts, and more without the need for traditional earbuds. The frames feature an IPX4 water resistance rating, enabling use in a variety of environments and athletic pursuits.

Features

Battery improvements are a key feature of the Oakley Meta HSTN, with the company stating that the glasses offer 40% longer battery life compared to previous models. Users can expect up to eight hours of typical use and up to 19 hours of standby time. The product comes with a charging case that provides up to 48 hours of additional charging capacity when away from a power source.

The glasses are equipped with what Oakley calls an Ultra HD 3K camera, offering video recording at a resolution higher than standard Full HD (1080p). The company also offers Meta AI integration, which brings a personal AI assistant directly to the device, allowing users to interact with features and retrieve information using voice commands.

Industry partnership

The Oakley Meta glasses are part of the ongoing collaboration between Meta and EssilorLuxottica. Rocco Basilico, Chief Wearables Officer at EssilorLuxottica, highlighted the broader company strategy, stating, "This marks a bold new chapter in our wearables journey. With Oakley's iconic design legacy and Meta's breakthroughs in AI and spatial computing, we're setting a new standard for the industry. It's part of a broader multi-brand, multi-technology strategy that reflects the scale of our ambition: to build a connected eyewear category that spans lifestyles, communities, and use cases. We're combining design, utility, and emotion to deepen human connection and unlock new potential through the lens of every brand we touch. And there is far more to come."

Design details

Select Oakley Meta HSTN models are offered with PRIZM Lens technology, developed to optimise vision by enhancing contrast and colour definition under various lighting conditions. The technology is based on understanding how the human brain and eye process light, with proprietary dyes used to fine-tune the light spectrum, amplify colour, and filter out visual noise. The company claims this facilitates faster reactions and improved visual cues for wearers.

The glasses are available in six frame and lens combinations, each designed to be compatible with prescription lenses. The variants include:

  • Oakley Meta HSTN Warm Grey with PRIZM Ruby Lenses
  • Oakley Meta HSTN Black with PRIZM Polar Black Lenses
  • Oakley Meta HSTN Brown Smoke with PRIZM Polar Deep Water Lenses
  • Oakley Meta HSTN Black with Transitions Amethyst Lenses
  • Oakley Meta HSTN Clear with Transitions Grey Lenses
  • Oakley Meta HSTN Black with Clear Lenses

The global campaign for the new glasses features athletes including World Cup winner Kylian Mbappé and three-time Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes.

"For 50 years, we've been pushing the boundaries of what is possible, obsessed with solving unsolved problems," said Caio Amato, Global President of Oakley. "Together with Meta, we are setting new bounds of reality – It is not only about pushing forward performance, but also about amplifying human potential as never before. And this is just the first chapter of a new era for sports."

The Oakley Meta HSTN product line, marking the introduction of Oakley and Meta's joint efforts in AI-powered wearables, is set for preorder ahead of a broader launch of the full collection later in the year.
