Samsung launches Galaxy Buds3 FE in Australia for AUD $249
Samsung Electronics Australia has announced the launch of the Galaxy Buds3 FE, expanding its range of wireless earbuds for the local market.
The Galaxy Buds3 FE aim to bring a selection of higher-end features, including an updated design, enhanced audio performance, and Galaxy AI integration, at a retail price of AUD $249. The earbuds will be available in black and grey from selected retailers from 26 September.
Design and user comfort
Adopting what Samsung refers to as the 'Blade' design, the Buds3 FE showcase a visual style that includes a matte dual-tone finish and semi-transparent accents, representing a more contemporary and streamlined aesthetic within the Galaxy device family. The company also stated that the design balances simplicity and expressive detail, with an aim to pair form and function.
As part of Samsung's product evolution, the Buds3 FE were designed with a larger speaker in comparison to previous models, which, according to the company, is intended to deliver "rich, powerful sound with deep bass and clear treble". The overall fit and comfort have also been targeted as a priority for everyday use.
Audio and call performance
The new earbuds feature Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) with the aim of better reducing ambient noise. This is supported by a combination of the updated speaker and ANC technology that is enabled by default. Users have the ability to alter noise cancellation gestures and access further options through Samsung's software on compatible devices.
For call quality, Samsung has implemented a machine learning model for voice isolation and has adjusted the microphone position so that it is directed towards the user's mouth. This is to help ensure that conversations remain clear in various environments, such as noisy commutes or outdoor locations.
AI-driven functionality
Integration with Galaxy AI is featured on the Buds3 FE, bringing several new functions to the earbuds when paired with compatible Galaxy devices. Voice-activated commands are supported for tasks such as checking schedules or accessing email, without needing to retrieve a phone. The earbuds can be used in conjunction with the Galaxy AI Interpreter app on a smartphone to facilitate language translation in real time. According to Samsung, this will allow users to "listen to a lecture in a foreign language or have a conversation with someone in another language."
"Additionally, AI features and the Buds3 FE design ensure that queuing up the next playlist or translating a conversation from one language to another is always just a word or long press away. When phrases like 'Hey Google' are used, Buds3 FE can listen, understand, and respond without a screen or hands, just voice. The experience is fast, natural, and conversational, designed to feel more like talking to a friend than using a device. Users can also check their daily agenda or email without removing their phone from their pocket or bag. For translation, they can use Buds3 FE with the Galaxy AI Interpreter app on their smartphone to listen to a lecture in a foreign language or have a conversation with someone in another language."
Samsung notes that Galaxy AI features are currently free of charge, with any specific plans for premium AI services to be decided in coordination with partners at the end of 2025. At this stage, there are no plans to charge for these features.
Integration and connectivity
The Galaxy Buds3 FE benefit from Samsung's Auto Switch function, which enables seamless transitions of audio connections between Galaxy devices for compatible users. There is also direct access for set-up and app-free control from any screen on supported Galaxy devices, aiming to streamline the user experience across Samsung's hardware lineup.
Key technical specifications include Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity, support for multiple codecs, and a stated battery life of up to six hours of music playback (24 hours with charging case) with ANC enabled. The case and earbuds are stated to collectively provide up to 30 hours of audio playback with ANC disabled. The Buds3 FE are also IP54 water resistant and come with three microphones per earbud to assist with call and audio quality.
Market positioning
The earphones are compatible with Android 11.0 or higher devices with at least 1.5GB RAM, though some features may be reserved for Samsung Galaxy device users. Among the functions requiring a supported Galaxy device are Auto Switch and AI-driven interpreter services. The earbuds are positioned to appeal to users wanting integration with the broader Samsung Galaxy ecosystem.
Samsung stated, "Galaxy Buds3 FE mark a new chapter in expanding the Galaxy Experience. Designed for users who want reliable performance, smart features, and a stylish design at a great value, Galaxy Buds3 FE make it easier than ever to join the Galaxy ecosystem. The earbuds also offer seamless integration with Galaxy devices, including quick access from system settings and app-free control from any screen."
