Ultrahuman unveils PowerPlugs app store & AFib smart ring

Thu, 18th Jul 2024

Wearable technology company Ultrahuman has announced two significant developments in their product offerings. These milestones include the debut of their app store, named PowerPlugs, and the launch of a novel feature: the world's first atrial fibrillation (AFib) detection system incorporated into a smart ring, the Ultrahuman Ring AIR.

The PowerPlugs platform is designed to allow users to personalise their health journey with a selection of apps and plugins. These include health and wellness tools such as AFib detection, Circadian Rhythm regulation, Pregnancy monitoring, Menstrual Cycle Tracking, Caffeine Window management, Vitamin D optimisation, Jet Lag reduction, Weightloss assistance, and Ovulation tracking. The platform is accessible via the Ultrahuman app and offers both free and premium versions.

Ultrahuman's founder and CEO, Mohit Kumar, commented on the launch, stating, "When it comes to health, one size doesn't fit all. That's why we built PowerPlugs for people to pick and choose what matters most for their health and wellness. Over the next few years, you could expect thousands of applications to be built on top of Ultrahuman's comprehensive health data platform."

Emphasising the capabilities of the new platform, Kumar highlighted the AFib detection feature as a particularly groundbreaking innovation. He said, "We're launching our first few PowerPlugs with a novel game changing capability, AFib detection. This life-saving technology comes with medical approval in limited markets currently, and we're aggressively launching new markets with regulatory approvals every few weeks."

The Ultrahuman Ring AIR's AFib detection capabilities represent a significant advancement in wearable health technology. Atrial fibrillation is the most common type of irregular heart rhythm, which, if undetected, can lead to severe health complications such as stroke and heart failure. The AFib PowerPlug monitors heart rhythm discreetly every night, helping users to track any potential arrhythmia episodes and seek early intervention if necessary.

The PowerPlugs ecosystem includes several other features aimed at enhancing users' health and wellness. The Circadian Rhythm plugin provides actionable recommendations to align daily activities with natural light cycles, aiming to improve sleep quality and overall energy levels. The Pregnancy Mode plugin adjusts health monitoring to provide tailored advice on nutrition and activity levels, crucial during pregnancy.

Cycle Tracking is another key feature, offering a comprehensive overview of menstrual cycle phases and predicting fertility windows, helping women manage their reproductive health with more accuracy. Meanwhile, the Caffeine Window plugin helps users optimise stimulant consumption to boost alertness without disrupting sleep.

The Vitamin D plugin aids users in managing their sun exposure based on their skin type and current UV index, optimising Vitamin D intake safely. The Jet Lag plugin offers personalised plans to reset the body's circadian clock during travel, utilising methods such as light exposure and melatonin supplements. The Weightloss plugin integrates meal planning with real-time glucose monitoring to optimise fitness journeys.

Additionally, the Ovulation plugin enables women to track ovulation cycles accurately, thereby enhancing the chances of conception or aiding in natural family planning methods. Continuous monitoring may also help in identifying reproductive health issues early, allowing for timely interventions.

Ultrahuman has also opened up its data streams to developers through UltraSignal, allowing access to Raw PPG, Accelerometer, and Temperature data from the Ring AIR. This initiative invites developers to create their own bespoke algorithms and PowerPlugs, potentially advancing customisation and innovation in health monitoring.
