VTech launches LeapMove in Australia, promoting active learning play
VTech Electronics is introducing its new LeapMove TV console to Australian retailers, targeting children aged 4 to 11 years with a focus on active learning through movement detection technology.
Active play focus
The LeapMove console, marketed under the LeapFrog brand, is designed to turn physical activity into a range of educational games and adventures. LeapMove makes use of a built-in motion sensor that tracks a child's body movements, meaning no controller is required to play. Children interact directly with the games by moving, jumping, dancing, and performing other motions that are mirrored on the TV screen.
The on-screen action places children in the centre of the experience, either as themselves or as one of three pre-set characters. The product aims to encourage activity and engagement, with every movement acting as a command within the games.
Educational content
LeapMove comes with 25 built-in games that address more than 20 educational topics, including mathematics, logic, vocabulary, rhyming, spelling, sound and letter recognition, as well as dance and choreography. The system provides three difficulty levels to cater for children from preschool age through to the end of primary school.
The console is also designed to grow with the child, with additional educational games available for download through LeapFrog's website, allowing for continued skill development over time.
Parental controls and safety
Safety and ease of use are core considerations in the design of LeapMove. The console does not require an internet connection and does not record any data, which the maker says ensures a 100% safe experience for children. Up to three player profiles can be created on a single device, allowing multiple family members to participate in the games.
Parents have the option to set screen time limits for each player, offering flexibility in how the product is managed within the home. These settings are intended to make screen time more structured and manageable for families.
Industry recognition
The LeapMove console recently received formal recognition in the French toy industry. The device was awarded the Jouet de l'année 2025 Award at the Grand Prix du Jouet 2025. The event, now in its 42nd year, is organised by La Revue du Jouet, a French toy trade publication, along with a panel of 14 retail buyers.
Company statement
"Passive screen time isn't great for kids, so instead LeapMove gets children moving, turning every jump, twist, and twirl into a chance to learn," explains Maud Rocher, Marketing Director at VTech Electronics Australia. "It's more than just play — it's a fresh way to help kids grow and explore through movement."
Rocher also noted the recent industry award, stating, "The console has just won the 2025 Toy of the Year Award in France, a sign of LeapMove's truly innovative approach to children's game play."
Availability
LeapMove is scheduled to be available in Australia from August. It will be stocked by retailers including Big W, Target, Myer, as well as select toy stores and online outlets. The suggested retail price is AUD $129.95.
